Welcome to the Roadhouse! Yes, we are all that is out here at Navajo City. It's 23 miles to Bloomfield, 47 miles from Dulce and 5 miles from Navajo Dam.
We operated as a road-side eatery for the oil-field and traveling public from 2004 to 2009. We added fuel services in 2007. People loved our food and the personal attention they got as a Roadhouse customer.
Before we owned it, it was known as the City Bar and operated as a roadside bar and grill. Before that it was the Water Trough. It was originally built when Navajo Dam was in construction. A subdivision was built around it to provide a community for people who wanted to live near the lake. The value of a New Mexico liquor license was too high to keep with the business in 2004, so the Roadhouse era was the first time it was operated without alcohol.
We made a lot of friends there and really became an important part of the community (only public bathrooms in 50 miles!). In some ways we miss being part of that, but it's time to let it go on to another owner who is ready for the next incarnation.
Why are you selling Navajo City?
We own a small guest facility 30 miles due south of Navajo City, where John sells his time as a CPA and Patricia writes books. Additionally we train the wild horses captured on the Jicarilla Ranger District. Owning a small cafe requires more time and attention than we wanted to give it. It was fun when we were both working it, but our real lives took us away.
